The first thing you'll want to do is pick a photographer who's work you LOVE! That's the number one, most important thing. You get this right and it's almost certain that you'll be happy with your new photos. But there are a few things to keep in mind if you want to set your shoot up for success (and make your photographer so very happy). Here are a few Do's and Don't to think about before your next Family Photo Shoot:

DO:

• Plan ahead: Start thinking about what you're going to wear at least a week in advance. This will give you time to find the right outfits and make sure they fit well.
• Coordinate, don't match: Gone are the days of everyone wearing the exact same thing. Instead, coordinate your outfits by sticking to a color scheme or style that complements each other.
• Consider the location: Think about the location of the photo shoot and choose outfits that will work well in that environment.
• Accessorize: Add some personality to your outfits by adding accessories like scarves, hats, or jewelry.
• Get your hair and makeup done: Getting professional hair and makeup done can add a polished look to your photos and make you feel more confident.

DON'T:

• Wear anything too trendy: You don't want to look back at your photos and cringe at the clothing trends of the time. Stick to classic styles that won't look dated.
• Dress too casually: While it's important to be comfortable, you also want to look put together for your photos. Avoid wearing anything too casual or athletic.
• Overdo the accessories: While accessories can add some flair to your outfits, don't overdo it. Too many accessories can distract from your beautiful faces.
• Forget about the weather: Make sure you're dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, especially if you're taking photos outdoors.
• Show up unprepared: Make sure everyone in your family is well-fed and well-rested before the photo shoot. A cranky toddler or hungry teenager can ruin the mood and the photos.

Here are 5 TIPS for having a FUN, successful family and KIDS photography session!!

1. CANDID IS COOL!!

Posed photos are lovely and typically we can make it happen, however, in our experience some of the most precious, memory making photos are those candids that capture our babes the BEST! Laughter always tops a posed smile. Laughing (generated by silly dad jokes) is a fabulous way to get great pics without pushing a grin! Be cool with candids for those photos you'll love for years and years to come!

2. USE THE ELEMENTS AROUND YOU!!

Kids LOVE the outdoors and everything that comes with it! Find a pile of leaves to throw, some snow to play in or a flower to admire. Make a game of it and the magic will reveal itself! Let the kids have fun and we will do the rest :)

3. SIBLING LOVE!!!

I love when we have siblings. The love or annoyance they have for each other can both come through and it's wildly precious regardless. When these little humans grow up one day they will remember who was by their side in their youth! We let siblings interact freely and oh man, is it SPECIAL!!

4. COMFORT IS KEY!!

One of the most important things is being sure that the kids are comfortable.  When we do pose them, we want it to be natural and to their personality. We like to warm up with some fun games like skipping, running, tickle fights (between the family), or duck farts! LOL We want them to like us and feel comfy!!

Outfits are also important when it comes to comfort. So, you want coordinating outfits? Be sure the kids like them, and can move in them freely.  Try them on a head of time to be sure they are good to go! 

5. RELAXING IS RAD!!!

Come into your session relaxed, well fed and well napped! Drop the stress at the door so it doesn't echo through the family. Bring snacks and we will take breaks as needed; as my grandma always said, everyone will feel better after they eat! haha! 

 As well, manage your expectations. Pinterest sets the bar high, but if you allow things to unfold organically I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised! At the end of the day, we want you to have a beautiful, memorable and enjoyable experience!!

This photo is classic to the gorgeous season change we experience here in Southern Utah! Yellows, oranges and reds pop throughout the mountains near Cedar City, Parowan, Brian Head, Cedar Breaks, Duck Creek and Panguitch Lake.  You have to hurry and take advantage, because when the weather turns cold those colors go with it.
 

Christian was born to be a cattle rancher, following in his fathers footsteps. He romped this valley when he was little and takes pride in the legacy he carries on!
 

These kids! They are some of the most eloquent, lovely, considerate, kind, and polite little humans we have had the pleasure of working with! They operate from LOVE and that is a direct reflection of their parents! We love to photograph kids in a lifestyle way. Kids photography is special in that you get to capture a tiny glimpse of their littleness. We allow them to be themselves capturing their very personality. It's a heart burster! 

Alice! The Momma; the queen! She is the domestic engineer of this fabulous family. We always give some love to each individual in a photoshoot. You never know when you may want to frame a gorgeous photo of yourself and pop it up in your house! It's our philosophy that every women should see herself, in a photo in this case, as beautiful we see her; as beautiful as she is! 

First comes love... Let's not forget how this family started! When two people are in love, we let that love shine! Couples photography is our jam.  Now we have the beauty of Southern Utah to enhance the love we capture.

Dana Point

What a perfect spot for so many backdrops! Dana Point boasts sweeping ocean views from the Dana Point Headlands Conservation Area to the Ocean Institute for a marina setting.  Salt Creek Beach measures up just the same with its tall cliff backdrops and crashing waves.  These two beautiful people were up for the adventure! 

We love road photos. There is something so symbolic about the amazing adventure and journey that lies ahead.

Voytek and Lynsey met in 2011, and it was pretty much love at first few hours of conversation. We had a QUICK engagement and were married October of 2012. We knew that we had found our partner for life, so why wait?

Voytek has been taking pictures since he was 7, when his grandfather gave him his very first 35mm camera. He always loved looking at the world through his lens.  He studied photography and videography in college, and proceeded on to Photography School. He began with gorgeous landscape photography and stylized promo shoots for actors and performers.  When a friend asked him to shoot their wedding back in 2007, he realized his passion for the story of love, along with great lighting, awesome landscape backdrops and a couple enamored with each other.

You and I Photography was born in this our 6th year in San Diego.  Having established himself with the many venues and coordinators across San Diego County, we knew it was time!
